Acquire Money Smarts at the Library this month or help NM picture it!

April is all about Money Smarts at the Ruidoso Public Library.

As part of a nationwide program called Money Smart Week (which is April 22-28), eight presentations will take your questions and give you lots of new ideas on how to become money-wise.

First, this week is Ruidoso's own, Rutalee Todd-Jernigan (Farm Bureau Financial Services).  On Thursday, April 5, from 4-5pm, she will help you increase your financial smarts.  Come with any questions you have.

Then, Saturday, April 7, from 11 am to noon, Ismael Camacho, of the state’s Assistant Attorneys General, discusses identity theft and scams to watch out for.

As part of New Mexico's Centennial year as a state, the New Mexico's Tourism Department is hosting a contest: Recreate photos from 1912 for a chance to win $10,000.  If enough people "like" your picture, you may win tickets to Spencer Theater's May 23 show, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap.

Here is how to participate:
  1. Register here to take part in the “Get the Picture” challenge. There’s a $10,000 prize at stake.
  2. Explore the 100 images in our "Get the Picture" photo gallery.
  3. Use your knowledge of the state, clues within the photo, or your favorite Internet search engine to figure out where a particular photo was taken.
  4. Travel to that location and take a 'modern' photo just like it.
  5. Upload your photo to your Profile Page.
Each photo that you successfully match and submit will result in one entry into the contest. The more photos you match correctly, the better your chances at winning the $10,000 grand prize.
Be creative with your photos.
We'll have special recognition for the photos that are the most fun.
Help us celebrate New Mexico's Centennial.
Figure it out, photograph it, and file it online. Get out there and "Get the Picture."
