We have plenty of happenings at the library for the month of March.


 

If you have not done so already, stop by and meet our new Librarian Assistants, Kathryn and Trish. They are ready to assist you with your book and technical needs. ☺

 

On Friday, March 7th at noon there will be a book talk with local author Robert Harrison on his book "Gone West." 

Story: A young Wyatt Harrison grows dissatisfied with the drudgery of working on the family farm in northern Alabama and contending with an unpredictable father during the early 1870's. His decision to leave home and find a life more to his liking is soon immersed in trouble. Join us to find out more!                                                 
There will be books for sale with a portion of the proceeds going to Friends of the Library. This event will be held upstairs in the Conference Room.

Wednesday, March 12th will be all about St. Patrick's Day at the Preschool Program in the Children's section. Beginning at 10:30am stories will be read about St. Patrick's Day and the craft will be a special Leprechaun Ornament hanger. 
There will also be a movie showing at 2pm for the little ones. "Darby O'Gill and the Little People" will be the feature presentation. This film was produced in 1959 and is rated G. It runs approximately 91 minutes.   

Also on Wednesday the 12th at 11am the Writer's Workshop Group will be meeting. 

This event is held upstairs in the conference room. If you are interested in joining this group e-mail a chapter to coreybard@ruidoso-nm.gov

Friday, March 14th at noon Fort Stanton, Inc. presents "The Last Cruise of the Columbus."

This is a powerful and entertaining documentary about the famous German Luxury Liner, the SS Columbus, whose sinking resulted in the first German POW's on American soil--right here in Lincoln County! 
Admission is free. The film will be shown downstairs in the classroom. This film is in color, is approximately 90 minutes long, is in English, and is appropriate for all ages. Bottled water will be provided, you are encouraged to bring a bag lunch. 

Beginning Saturday, March 15th New Mexico New Deal Art will be on display throughout the library. These include photos of New Deal art as well as administration images of people in the Depression Era. This collection is from the New Mexico Chapter of the National New Deal Preservation Association.    
Also on Saturday, March 15th, join us for a Walk/Jog around the Links. Beginning at 9am, bring a canned or non perishable food item and take a stroll around the Links at your own pace. This event supports the Food Bank of Lincoln County and is Co-Sponsored with The Village Parks and Recreation.  
Wednesday, March 19th at 10:30  is ABC Stories craft for Preschoolers. This craft is all about "creating designs on the first letter of your name." 

newmexicobookcoverFriday, March 21st Kathy Flynn will be joining us at 11am to discuss New Deal Art and her book "Public Art and Architecture in New Mexico."  Her book discusses the locations and histories of  New Deal throughout our state. Kathy is currently the Executive Director of the New Deal Preservation Association. 
Wednesday, March 26th at 10:30  is Counting/Number Stories craft for Preschoolers. This craft is cloud/rainbow number order.
